The 36th Session WGET ICT Humanitarian Innovation Forum 29-30 April 2015 Dubai
Castell were pleased to attend this years WGET-ICT Humanitarian Innovation Forum.
This a letter from the Chair, Patrick Gordon.
The 36th WGET-ICT Humanitarian Innovation Forum that took place in Dubai on 29-30 April was an opportunity for us to come together, meet with partners and continue the conversation on the role of technology in enabling humanitarian actors, affected communities and governments affected by humanitarian crisis.
This year, the ICT Humanitarian week focused on the “ETC 2020” strategic vision” and enabling digital aid. During the WGET we explored “Communicating with Affected Communities (CwC)”, which recognizes communications as a basic humanitarian need of affected communities, host governments and aid workers.
Participants sought to develop a shared understanding of requirements, to consider future tools, solutions and partnerships required to address how the humanitarian community should adapt to manage the greater dependencies on technology created by the digital transformation the humanitarian community is currently undergoing. The importance of partnerships to realize the full potential of citizen driven aid and to manage risks was underscored over the two days of the Forum.
The WGET Forum is built on the strength of the community we have collectively created, and I would like to thank you for your support and dedication. I would in particular like to thank our presenters at this year’s Forum, as well as our partner, the International Humanitarian City, and our sponsors Thuraya and Yahsat, for making this year’s event so successful.
I am pleased to announce that a collection of materials presented at the 36th WGET Forum is now available on our website: www.wgetforum.org. There you will also find relevant content from earlier forums and key reference documents.
